How this calculator estimates a cleaning price

It uses a simple, transparent formula many solo cleaners start with:

  1. Estimate the time: 30 minutes for setup and walkthrough, plus about 30 minutes per bedroom and 30 minutes per bathroom for a standard clean.
  2. Adjust for the type of clean: deep cleans are estimated at 1.5× the time and move-in/move-out cleans at 1.75×, because they include far more detail.
  3. Adjust for condition: about 10% less time for a well-kept home and 30% more for one that needs extra work.
  4. Multiply by your hourly rate and round up to the nearest $5. The quote range allows roughly 10% either way for what you find at the walkthrough.
Example: a 3 bed / 2 bath standard clean = 0.5 + 1.5 + 1 = 3 hours. At $45/hour, that's $135.

Make the estimate more accurate

  • Time your own cleans. After five or six jobs, you'll know your real time per room, which beats any rule of thumb.
  • Charge more for first visits. A home that hasn't been professionally cleaned in a while takes much longer. Quote it as a deep clean. Here's how to price deep cleans.
  • Don't forget your costs. Your hourly rate has to cover supplies, gas, and drive time, not just your labor. See our step-by-step pricing guide.

Questions

How much should I charge per hour for house cleaning?

It depends on your area, your costs, and what you want to earn. Start from the take-home pay you want per hour, add your costs per job, and check what other cleaners near you charge. Our pricing guide walks through the math.

Is this calculator accurate for my home?

It gives a reasonable starting estimate for a typical home. Clutter, pets, home condition, and extras like inside the oven or fridge can all add time, so adjust based on your walkthrough.

Should I charge by the hour or a flat rate?

Many cleaners use their hourly rate to calculate a flat price, then quote the flat price. Clients like knowing the total up front, and you get paid more as you get faster.

Is the calculator free?
